This week there was another first for the primary schools in Harlow, as the inaugural triathlon at Stewards Academy was trialled. 9 teams from 6 schools brought 6 athletes (3 boys and 3 girls) to ‘compete’ in the 3 disciplines: a 200m swim, 1.2km cycle and 600m run. With staggered wave starts, akin to those you’d find at the Nuclear Races, the children showed amazing skill, enthusiasm and resilience – particularly as the weather was pretty miserable.
As this was our first venture, lots of lessons were learned and adaptations made and planned for. Thanks were given to Stewards Academy and Passmores Academy for providing the venues and lifeguards; Harlow SGO Luke Hammond for organising the event and to David Stacey and Gill Pardoe for supporting throughout the day. Additional thanks were given to the 4 Sports Leaders from Church Langley, who ‘tallied’ their way through the swimming event with great leadership and determination.
Teams taking part: Hare Street x 2, Holy Cross x 2, Tanys Dell, Pemberley x 2, Church Langley x 2 and St James.
