Henry Moore take GOLD in Years 3/4 Indoor Athletics

Congratulations to the fantastic Years 3 and 4 team from Henry Moore who triumphed in the first Indoor Sportshall Athletics event of the academic year.

Due to the increasing costs and lack of availability of the external providers – the bold decision by the HDPSSA to run the Sportshall Athletic events ourselves proved to be a huge positive for the schools and pupils in Harlow. The number of entrees rocketed as a staggering 25 teams, and nearly 500 pupils attend the morning and afternoon events at Mark Hall Academy.

Partnership Manager David Stacey and School Games Organiser Luke Hammond, supported fantastically by Gill Pardoe, Harry Stacey and the awesome Sports Leaders from Mark Hall (under the instruction of Phil Dawes and Kristina O’Hara) hosted a colossal event unlike anything attempted by paid organisers – the results were incredible and despite a few teething problems, the standard was remarkable!

The children competed in a series of track races, hurdling, sprinting, crawling through tunnels, leaping over speed bouncers and stepping through obstacles. The same athletes competed in various field events: chest push, vertical jump, standing long jump, javelin, 5 strides and speed bouncers.

The event was loud and at times chaotic, but huge credit was given to the school staff to organise the children who are competing in field and track events simultaneously. Although the event over ran slightly, lesson were quickly learned and schedules have been adapted for the future events – which have also proved highly popular with record numbers of teams booked on.
