Cross Country bathes in success

For once, the weather Gods shone down upon the Primary School’s Cross-Country event, as nearly 800 athletes were bathed in warm sunshine at Mark Hall Sports Centre. The events were amazing, with fantastic support from school staff ensuring that all the runners were on time, prepared and ready to do their best – which they did magnificently! Each event (1000m for Years 3 and 4 in the morning and 1500m for Years 5 and 6 in the afternoon) ran with great efficiency, as the runners were placed, scores collected and results (and medals!) announced – it is worth noting that many other cross-country events in Essex do not provide scores on the day!

The results (showing the top three teams in each event only) were as follows:

Year 3 Girls – 1st Hatfield Heath, 2nd Henry Moore, and 3rd Jerounds

Year 3 Boys – 1st Henry Moore, 2nd Jerounds, and 3rd Hatfield Heath

Year 4 Girls – 1st Henry Moore, 2nd Roydon, and 3rd Jerounds

Year 4 Boys – 1st Newhall, 2nd Henry Moore, and 3rd Hare Street

Year 5 Girls – 1st Henry Moore, 2nd Freshwaters, and 3rd Newhall

Year 5 Boys – 1st Henry Moore, 2nd St Nicholas, and 3rd Purford Green

Year 6 Girls – 1st Henry Moore, 2nd Jerounds, and 3rd Newhall

Year 6 Boys – 1st Fawbert and Barnard, 2nd Henry Moore, and 3rd Roydon

Schools taking part were: Abbotsweld, Cooks Spinney, Latton Green, Katherines, Jerounds, Henry Moore, Fawbert and Barnard, Hatfield Heath, The Downs, Purford Green, Potter Street, Churchgate, St Nicholas, St Albans, St Lukes, Roydon, Milwards, Pemberley, Newhall, Longwood, St James and Holy Cross.

We wish all the top teams and the top 3 individual finishers from each race, he very best of luck at the Essex County Finals, later in the month.

Organisers David Stacey (Church Langley) and Luke Hammond (Purford Green), gave thanks to the young sports leaders from Mark Hall Academy who excelled in their roles throughout both events. Thanks were given to Chris, Ollie and Alice from the local company ‘Sports Cool’ for volunteering their time to marshal the course and the main gate. Neil Coster (Headteacher from Hare Street) gave his thanks on behalf of all the primary schools to the organisers who continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide these opportunities.
