Nazeing awarded David Bown Cup

Once again the spirit of rugby shone through at the Annual Years 3 and 4 Tag-Rugby Festival at the Harlow Rugby Club.

A fantastic 18 teams of enthusiastic players arrived for a morning of fun group games, designed to provide experience and develop skills which can be transferred to future competitive tournaments. Pleasingly, the standard was much improved on previous years, with schools having clearly practiced during PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs – this was great to see.

Once the games were completed, the referees and organisers (David Stacey, Luke Hammond, Gill Pardoe, Steve Hannam and Nathan from HRFC) conferred to select the team which epitomised the love for fair-play and sportsmanship that David Bown (former Head Teacher of Saint Nicholas School) tried to instill in all of his pupils. It was very difficult choice, but eventually David Bown’s widow, Monique was on hand to award Nazeing 1 the trophy, before David Stacey led a rousing 3 cheers.

There are many things that we ‘get right’ in our sporting endeavours and this is certainly one of them; every single person who was involved in this morning’s festival should feel very proud of their contribution to an amazing event – well done all!

Teams involved: Church Langley x 2,  Hare Street x 2, Henry Moore x 2, Holy Cross x 2, Jerounds x 2, Milwards, Nazeing x 2, Pemberley Saint Nicholas, Tanys Dell and Little Parndon x 2
