Once again, as seems to be the case since Christmas, our Friday sporting event was hampered by awful weather. Though typical, as we’ve become used to, the school staff and athletes rallied round to produce another fantastic event.
This week’s Quad Kids events were held on the athletics track at Mark Hall Sports Centre. The morning saw athletes from Years 3 and 4 take part in a 50m sprint, a 400m dash, the standing long jump and a howler throw; whilst the afternoon event saw the older pupils from Year 5 and 6 compete in a 60m sprint, a 600m dash, the standing long jump and a howler throw.
With simple instructions, the children were guided by their school staff through the 4 events, competing against themselves and the clock/distance. The scores were compiled, with each athlete assigned an individual number which contributed towards a team score. Once the team had completed all 4 disciplines, they were then free to leave – which suited many due to the inclement weather and that it was the final day of half-term.
The results, which took longer to input than the actual events, show an impressive number of participants in both events – a combined total of over 330 athletes taking part. As ever thanks to everyone who was involved.
