Teams ‘serve’ up the fun at Tennis Tournaments!

Congratulations to the 29 teams of budding tennis youngsters who SERVED up a treat today at the annual Harlow Primary Schools’ Tennis Festivals. The morning’s event for pupils in Years 3 and 4, saw 13 teams of 4 players (2 boys and 2 girls) play in a series of ranked matches inside the awe inspiring ‘Dome’ of the Harlow Lawn Tennis Club.

Supported by Head Coach – Will Calvert, the 52 children made huge progress in their game play during the matches, officiated fantastically well by Sports Leaders from Mark Hall Academy.

Teams taking part: Hare Street x 2; Cooks Spinney x 2; Kingsmoor; Church Langley; Harlowbury; St James; St Nicholas; The Downs; Latton Green; and Roydon x 2.

The top 6 teams from this morning’s event will shortly receive an invitation to take part in the annual Years 3 and 4 Tri-Cluster Finals @ Harlow Tennis Club, competing against the top teams from the West Essex and Uttlesford Partnerships.

16 teams attending the afternoon session, which like the morning event, ran like clockwork thanks to the support from the Mark Hall Sports Leaders. Again, all the 64 children had great fun and developed their understanding of the rules and match play in a series of ‘rubbers’. Once the teams had been re-pooled, the top four competed in the finals group with Longwood finishing in first place, followed by Roydon 1 in 2nd place and then Church Langley 1 and Tanys Dell tied for 3rd place.

Teams taking part: Church Langley x 2; Hare Street x 2; Longwood; Saint Nicholas; Harlowbury; St James; Roydon x 2; Freshwaters; Tanys Dell x 2; The Downs; and Little Parndon x 2.

Organisers David Stacey (Church Langley) and Luke Hammond (Purford Green) were delighted at the standard of play and the levels of sportsmanship on display. Another sporting triumph for Harlow primary schools as the sporting opportunities continue to thrive.
