Church Langley retain Brister Cup in Rounders Win

Congratulations to the teams from Church Langley who, for the second year running, had both teams contesting for the top prize in the Annual Rounders ‘Brister Cup’ Finals.

For a while it was looking ‘touch and go’ as to whether this year’s event would actually take place as torrential rain prevented the pitches at Harlow Town CC being prepared; in fact even as the children arrived on Friday morning, the final pitch was being marked out by the organisers who had been hard at work from 6am.

An impressive 18 teams descended upon the beautiful outfields of the cricket club to take part in a series of matches. As usual, the children made great progress throughout the day as they gained experience of what is a very ‘challenging’ game, with many complicated rules.

By mid-afternoon, the two finalist from Church Langley were battling it out for the top prizes; both teams felt the pressure as strong hitting and fielding saw the game ebb and flow.  Eventually the match finished with both teams level on 6 rounders each and the trophy was shared. Organiser and Deputy Head teacher from Church Langley, David Stacey was delighted for all the schools who took part. “another great event completed, thanks to the enthusiasm of the pupils and the dedication of the wonderful school staff; rounders is a tough game and takes hours of practise in order to play to such a high standard – well done all!”

The 18 teams involved: Hare Street x 2; Church Langley x 2; Potter Street x 2: Purford Green x 3; The Downs; Roydon, Kingsmoor x 2; Tanys Dell; Nazeing; Freshwaters; and Little Parndon x 2.
