Following on the from the morning’s event, the afternoon continued with the all-girls theme as the Years 5 and 6 battled it out in some very competitive matches for the chance of representing Harlow in the Essex County Finals. The second tournament of the day at Passmores Academy saw some wonderful goals, tackles and saves, with moments of individual skill and great link-up play a feature throughout the afternoon.
After the initial opening rounds were played the top 6 teams battled it out or a place in the grand final – with Hare Street 1 and Purford Green securing a title shot. And what a final it was! A 7-minute battle which ebbed and flowed throughout, with Hare Street taking the lead from a penalty, before Purford responded with two goals only to concede an equaliser in what they thought were the dying seconds. However, the last act of a thrilling match saw a well-worked Purford winner break the hearts of a spirited Hare Street team.
As ever, thanks to the school staff for providing the opportunities for the children and to the event staff (Gill Pardoe, Will Stacey, Steve Hannam, Calum Kirk and Luke Hammond) for assisting David Stacey in running the event.
